The Office of the Special Prosecutor, OSP, has released private legal practitioner Mr Martin Kpebu after detaining him for several hours on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.
Mr. Kpebu was arrested for allegedly obstructing an officer of the Special Prosecutor during a visit to the OSP premises to assist in an investigation. Reports say he engaged in a verbal exchange with a military officer stationed at the facility.
Speaking to TV3 shortly after his release, Mr. Kpebu described his detention as unnecessary and insisted he had done nothing wrong. He admitted that he exchanged words with the officer, claiming the officer insulted him first.
“The military officer said I am stupid, and I also said he is stupid. So we exchanged words,” he said.
Mr. Kpebu further argued that his arrest proves that Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng is “incompetent,” adding that he plans to petition President Mahama for his removal from office. According to him, he has 15 allegations against the Special Prosecutor.
Earlier, one of his lawyers, Marcellinus Biah, narrated that the misunderstanding began after Mr. Kpebu granted an interview outside the OSP building. He said the officer at the gate appeared unhappy about the interview, leading to the altercation.
Mr. Biah added that the OSP later informed them that Mr. Kpebu had obstructed an officer and would be charged. He said the lawyer was granted bail but was briefly taken to an undisclosed location before his release.
