Star Oil Ghana has again demonstrated its commitment to civic responsibility by making a significant payment towards the TV licence fee for its employees. The company paid GH₵50,000 last year and has now redeemed the promise made by the CEO, Mr. Philip Tieku. That is, an additional GH₵160,884 to cover the 2026 annual TV licence fees for its 2,719 staff members, including a top-up for last year’s payment.
The payment was made to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) during a brief meeting on Wednesday, December 7, 2026, attended by senior officials, including the Director-General of GBC, Professor Amin Alhassan. Professor Alhassan expressed appreciation for Star Oil’s support, stating that, “The TV licence fee enables GBC to operate in less profitable areas and extend content to underserved communities.”

The Marketing Officer, Bernard Eyram Amewuda, Operations Manager, Selorm Tettey-Quapedu, and Compliance Manager Callistus Komashie, among others, led the team in presenting the cheque on behalf of the CEO, Philip Tieku, emphasizing that the company’s decision aims to set an example for other organizations while honouring its civic duty.
Professor Alhassan highlighted the importance of the TV licence fee, describing it as “a levy that allows GBC to fulfill its public service mandate.” He urged other corporate entities to emulate Star Oil’s gesture and fulfill their civic obligations.
The meeting was attended by notable GBC officials, including the Director of Marketing, Mr. George Lomotey; Director of Television, Akushika Acquaye; and Director of Radio, among others. Star Oil’s commitment to supporting public broadcasting is commendable, and it is hoped that other companies will follow suit.
