The group of newly posted teachers, made up of graduates from Colleges of Education and universities, claims that its members have not been paid for 12 months and 8 months, respectively.
The teachers posted by the state in 2024/2025 have thus given the John Mahama-led government a 20-day ultimatum to settle their unpaid salaries.
The group is also demanding the issuance of staff ID numbers and their validation, saying they have not been issued staff ID numbers or validated for the past 12 and 8 months after being posted to their various institutions.
“We are hereby giving notice that if by the end of September 2025 we are not issued our staff ID numbers, validated, and paid our salaries and arrears, we will stage a massive demonstration on the principal streets of Accra to register our displeasure and the hardship we are going through,” they reiterated.
Describing their situation as “devastating,” the teachers said they are struggling to meet basic needs such as rent, food, medical expenses, and utility bills.
“Many of us can no longer pay our rent, which is overdue. We are unable to settle our utility bills, and even basic needs such as food and medical bills have become difficult to afford, which has resulted in some of our colleagues losing their lives in recent times.”
At a press briefing in Accra, the group’s lead convener, Simon Kofi Nartey, appealed to President Mahama to intervene and urge the Ministry of Finance to release the necessary funds for payment.
“We know that His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, the President of Ghana, is a listening president. We humbly call for his urgent intervention to ensure that the Ministry of Finance releases the necessary funds to pay our arrears and salaries without further delay.”
