The Industrial Relations Officer of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Abass Imoro, has announced that transport fares are likely to be reduced soon.

Speaking to Channel One News on Monday, Mr. Imoro said talks between transport operators and the Ministry of Transport are nearly complete, with the final meeting scheduled for Tuesday, May 20.

“It was a long meeting. The Ministry wants a certain percentage of reduction, and we also have our figure. We finally agreed to meet halfway,” he explained.

The planned fare reduction comes as the Ghana cedi continues to strengthen against the US dollar. Mr. Imoro said the new fares will reflect this improvement, and commuters can expect some financial relief.

“The meeting is about reducing fares, so the public should expect a pleasant outcome,” he said.
