The Ghana Police Service has announced that two suspected robbers were shot dead in a gun battle with officers during an anti-robbery operation at Atebubu in the Bono East Region.
According to the Police, the incident occurred on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, when a patrol team encountered an ongoing robbery attack on commuters along the Atebubu highway.
The suspects reportedly opened fire upon spotting the officers. The Police returned fire, fatally wounding two of the suspects. The injured men were rushed to the hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival.
The Police Service added that the remaining suspects fled into nearby bushes.
A search at the scene uncovered a short gun loaded with two live cartridges, four spent cartridges, and a machete.
Police say a manhunt is underway to arrest the fleeing suspects.
