The Paramount Chief of Sirigu, Naba Atogumdeya Roland Akwara III, has appealed to the government through Member of Parliament Mahama Ayariga to ensure that the people of Sirigu receive their fair share of national resources.
Speaking at the 10th Anniversary celebrations of the enskinment of Azukodaana and the inaugural Azuko Festival in Sirigu, Kasena Nankana West District, the traditional leader called for the creation of a separate constituency for the Sirigu area, currently part of the Chiana-Paga Constituency.
Naba Akwara emphasized that the people of Sirigu have been steadfast supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and deserve to see tangible benefits in the form of projects and infrastructural development.
“We have shown our loyalty to the NDC over the years, and it is now time for us to see the benefits of that support. We need our own voice in the legislature to ensure that the needs of Sirigu are adequately addressed,” Naba Akwara asserted.
The 10th Anniversary of Azukodaana and the Azuko Festival brought together a blend of cultural displays, traditional dances, and vibrant exhibitions showcasing the rich heritage of the Sirigu people. The event was attended by government officials, including Mahama Ayariga, who is the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central.
Mahama Ayariga, in his address, acknowledged the concerns raised by the chief and the people of Sirigu, promising to work with the government to ensure that the region gets the attention it deserves.
“I hear your concerns, though I cannot promise but I will ensure that the development needs of Sirigu are put on the national agenda,” Ayariga stated.
The Azuko Festival, a celebration of culture and heritage, was also a platform for the community to come together and honor the traditions that have shaped Sirigu for centuries. The event demonstrated the unity and pride of the people, while also highlighting the urgent need for continued government support to foster growth in the Upper East Region.
