The management of Ghana’s premier, the University of Ghana (UG), Legon, has officially announced the lifting of restrictions banning all forms of social gatherings within the university enclave.
Authorities of the university on Wednesday, 25 June 2025, banned all forms of social gatherings within its enclave following a recent resurgence of Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on campus.
The Office of Student Affairs on Monday, July 14, 2025, issued a notice announcing the lifting of the ban.
The notice signifies a return to more regular campus life for students and organisations.
The notice, signed in consultation with the University Health Services and University Management, informed the entire university community that “The restriction on social gatherings on the University of Ghana campus due to the resurgence of COVID-19 has been lifted with immediate effect.”
Specifically, the notice permits groups such as the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG), the Students’ Representative Council (SRC), Junior Common Rooms (JCRs), religious groups, as well as departmental and school associations, to organise their weekly celebrations and other events.
“GRASAG, SRC, JCR, religious groups, departmental and school associations are now permitted to organise their week celebrations,” the notice stated.
Despite the easing of these restrictions, university authorities have strongly emphasised that health and safety must remain a top priority for everyone on campus.
Students and event organisers are expected to fully comply with all established COVID-19 safety measures to prevent any potential new wave of infections.
The statement concluded with a clear reminder: “Note that all COVID-19 protocols should be adhered to. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.”
