The Western Region Police have intercepted two trucks carrying 152 bales of compressed substances suspected to be cannabis (wee).
The substances were in bags covered with sawdust on board a Takoradi-bound Kia truck when police intercepted it at the Assorku police checkpoint in the Shama District on Sunday evening at around 5pm.
According to police, the occupants of the vehicle absconded, but one person, Moses Kweku Tawiah, 44, was arrested.
Subsequent interrogation led to the interception of a second truck, also carrying suspected cannabis, at the Ntankorful Junction the same evening.
The Public Relations Officer of the Western Region Police Command, Superintendent Olivia Adiku, said 152 bales were intercepted from the two vehicles, with each bale containing about 80 parcels suspected to be Indian hemp.
According to her, two individuals, Kwabena Forson, 55, and Isaac Kwame Kontor, 44, were later arrested for attempting to bribe the police with an amount of sixty-nine thousand Ghana cedis (GH¢69,000.00) to secure the release of Moses Kweku Tawiah, who had been arrested earlier at the Assorku barrier.
