Hearts of Oak secured the 2025 Democracy Cup after a tightly contested 1-0 win against their fierce Accra rivals, Great Olympics. The thrilling encounter took place on Friday, September 5, 2025 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, drawing a large crowd eager to witness the showdown for this year’s prestigious title.

Both teams fought hard from the opening whistle, showcasing determination and tactical discipline. The first half was a tense affair with numerous chances for both sides, but neither team managed to break the deadlock, leaving fans on the edge of their seats.

The decisive moment came in the 70th minute when Hearts of Oak introduced Kofi Asmah from the bench. Asmah made an immediate impact by scoring the only goal of the game, lifting the spirits of the Phobians and putting them in front on the scoreboard.

Great Olympics fought to find an equalizer as the match neared its conclusion, but Hearts of Oak’s defense stood firm, ensuring they held on for the victory. The win not only gave Hearts the trophy but also bragging rights over their city rivals.

More than just a football contest, the Democracy Cup represents unity and national celebration. Introduced by Parliament, the match commemorates Ghana’s commitment to parliamentary democracy, making Hearts of Oak’s triumph a moment of pride both on and off the pitch.
