The General Agricultural Workers Union (GAWU) has between 2006 and now rescued about 5,000 children engaged in all forms of child labour in some administrative regions of the country.

These children were rescued from the fishing, Cocoa and rice production sub sectors of the economy.

Some of them have been supported by GAWU to go through formal education to the tertiary level and they are gainfully employed.

The Deputy General Secretary of GAWU, Andrews Tagoe, made this known in Kumasi.

Speaking to GBC’s Nicholas Osei-Wusu as Ghana joins the global community to mark this year’s World Day Against Child Labour on Friday, June 12, Mr. Tagoe emphasised that Ghana has made some gains in the campaign against child labour , which hitherto was misconstrued in Ghana as part of child training and development.
