Adidome Unity Ladies have been crowned champions of the Volta Regional Women’s Division One League, ending more than seven years of dominance by Anlo Ladies.

The newly crowned champions secured the title in a dramatic fashion, edging Anlo Ladies 1-0 thanks to a stoppage-time winner from captain Elizabeth Kwawuvi.

Her 92nd-minute corner kick curled directly into the net, sealing a historic victory for her side.

The result brings to an end Anlo Ladies’ long-standing control of the regional league, during which they consistently represented the Volta Region at the Zonal Chapionship for over seven seasons.

This victory is a crucial breakthrough for Adidome Unity Ladies who joined the Regional Women’s League three seasons ago, a rapid rise for the club and the regional game.

As champions of the region, Adidome Unity Ladies will now represent the Volta Region at the Women’s Zonal Championship.

At the Zonal Championship, they will face the winners from the Eastern, Central and Greater Accra regions, with a place in the National Women’s Premier League at stake.

Following the victory, the club’s Chief Executive Officer, Joseph Kaledzi Mitusah, praised the Ghana Football Association, the Volta Regional Football Association and the Women’s Football Committee for their role in developing and organising the women’s game in the region.

He also commended competing clubs for their sportsmanship and contribution to raising the league’s standard.

We recognise that every team contributed to the success of this season, and we celebrate you all for your role in advancing women’s football in the Volta Region,” he said.

Mr Mitusah expressed confidence in his team’s readiness for the upcoming Zonal Championship, stating their ambition to qualify for the Women’s Premier League.

“We are very ready to represent the region. Our target is to improve on past performances and prove that we can meet the required standard, and possibly secure promotion to bring Premier League football to the Volta Region,” he added.

At the end of the league, Duhoe Forgive Emefa and goalkeeper Avi Bless both from Adidome Unity Ladies FC were adjudged the Best Player and Best Goalkeeper of the league.
