Two of boxing’s most celebrated figures, Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather Jr., are planning an exhibition fight scheduled for March 2026 in Africa.
The exact venue remains undisclosed but is said to be in the same region where Muhammad Ali famously defeated George Foreman in the iconic “Rumble in the Jungle” showdown.
Tyson, now 59, expressed great enthusiasm for the event, suggesting it will be a groundbreaking moment for the sport.
“Bringing this fight to Africa is about honouring boxing’s roots and making history again,” Tyson remarked.
He anticipates massive global interest, predicting the event will break records and capture the imagination of fight fans everywhere.
Mayweather, who is also 48 years old, has embraced exhibition fights since stepping away from professional competition, successfully creating a niche for himself by facing high-profile opponents outside the traditional boxing circuit.
His recent bouts, including one against Logan Paul, have drawn huge pay-per-view numbers and significant earnings, demonstrating the commercial potential of such events.
Tyson’s comeback fight against Jake Paul last year, despite ending in defeat, underscored his enduring appeal and ability to generate big paydays, reportedly earning him $20 million.
This upcoming bout against Mayweather could tap into that same excitement, blending nostalgia with a fresh showcase of their skills.
By returning to the continent that holds a special place in boxing history, this match aims not only to entertain but also to pay tribute to Africa’s pivotal role in the sport’s memorable chapters.
