The Ministry of Agriculture will in the next two months publish results of Agriculture census which was conducted in 2018.

The sector Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, who announced this at the Meet the Press series in Accra on Tuesday, March 10, said the results which will first be launched by the President among others reveal staggering issues bedevilling the country’s agriculture.

The results also show that the country’s farmer population is less than 3 million.

The Agriculture Census which was conducted in 2018 comes after 36 years when previous government failed to conduct census which is meant to be undertaken every ten years.

The Census of Agriculture was to collect information from households and institutions, and their involvement in agricultural activities in the country.

The information collected is critical for Policy makers to better identify, prepare, implement and evaluate development projects aimed at enhancing agriculture in Ghana.

Speaking on the ban issued to some grains from the country which were said to contain aflatoxins, the sector Minister said education of farmers are ongoing and measures are in place to deal with that.
