Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has acknowledged the ongoing economic hardship in Ghana but emphasised that the government has implemented various measures to alleviate the suffering.

Speaking at a media engagement at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel on August 25, 2024, he stated that, the suffering is still present, “but we have introduced numerous social interventions to reduce its impact”.

The NPP flagbearer’s comments came in response to a question about his 2016 election campaign mantra, “Ghanaians are suffering.” He highlighted the government’s achievements in addressing the plight of various groups, saying:

“Teachers were struggling, but we have restored their allowances. Nurses were suffering, and we have also reinstated their allowances. The introduction of free SHS has reduced the burden on parents.”

He also assured that an NPP-led government would continue to collaborate closely with the media, emphasising a commitment to upholding media freedom if elected in the 2024 general elections.

By citing these examples, Dr. Bawumia aimed to demonstrate government’s efforts to ameliorate the economic hardship and improve the lives of Ghanaians.
