Black Queens goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan has been nominated for the Women’s 11 at the prestigious 2025 The Best FIFA awards, highlighting her outstanding performances over the past year.
Konlan stands out as one of three African goalkeepers shortlisted in the goalkeeping category for the Team of the Year, marking a significant achievement for Ghanaian football.
Konlan’s exceptional form played a crucial role in helping the Black Queens secure a third-place finish at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) held in Morocco.
Her heroics between the posts were instrumental as Ghana claimed a bronze medal, their strong showing elevating her profile on the global stage.
The Ghanaian goalkeeper proved her worth in the knockout stages, where she made key saves in two of the three matches, helping the Black Queens advance and eventually clinch third place.
Her performances demonstrated not only skill but also composure under pressure, earning her deserved recognition.
Notably, Cynthia Konlan is the only Ghanaian nominated at this year’s global awards, underscoring her status as a standout talent in African football.
Her inclusion signals growing respect for Ghana’s contribution to the women’s game internationally.
Other African players nominated alongside Konlan include Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie, Tanzania’s Ngoy Mudimbi, and Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak, Ibtissam Jraidi, and Sanaa Mssoudy.
Zambia’s Barbra Banda and Malawi’s Temwa Chawinga also make the list, reflecting Africa’s strong presence in the global women’s football arena.
