Ghanaian goalkeeper Joseph Anang has earned a place on the shortlist for the Soccer Writers Ireland (SWI) League of Ireland Premier Division Goalkeeper of the Year Award after an impressive 2025 season with St. Patrick’s Athletic.
The 24-year-old’s performances between the posts have been pivotal in St. Patrick’s strong defensive campaign, helping the club secure the fewest goals conceded in the league.
Anang stood out throughout the season with his remarkable consistency and sharp reflexes, traits that allowed him to keep 18 clean sheets in 36 appearances.
His leadership from the back has been instrumental in organizing a defensive line that proved nearly impenetrable, contributing significantly to the Saints’ competitive push in the league standings.
Statistically, Anang’s impact is reflected in the fact that he conceded only 32 goals all season, a testament to both his skill and the overall solidity of the team’s defense.
His ability to deliver reliable performances game after game has not gone unnoticed by both fans and pundits, elevating his reputation as one of the top goalkeepers in the League of Ireland.
In addition to his club success, Anang marked a new milestone by making his senior international debut for Ghana’s Black Stars in a recent friendly against Japan.
This step onto the international stage underscores his rising profile and the growing recognition of his talents beyond Ireland.
As the award ceremony approaches, Joseph Anang stands as a leading candidate for the SWI Goalkeeper of the Year honor, a fitting acknowledgment for a standout season that has firmly placed him among the elite goalkeepers in Irish football.
