The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially confirmed an exciting international friendly between the Black Stars and Mexico, bolstering preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

This match marks the third warm-up fixture for Otto Addo’s squad as they sharpen their edge for the global tournament kicking off in June.
Ghana already locked in high-stakes friendlies against Austria and Germany in March, making the Mexico clash a crucial addition.

Facing one of the tournament’s host nations provides the Black Stars with a tough test against a team familiar with North American conditions, helping them fine-tune strategies for the showpiece event.

For Mexico, the game serves as prime preparation for their opening World Cup clash against South Africa on June 11.

This encounter gives the North Americans hands-on experience against dynamic African opposition, mirroring the tactical intensity they’ll face early in the tournament.

The fixture holds special value for Ghana as a dress rehearsal ahead of their Group L opener against Panama on June 17 in Toronto.

With Panama sharing a similar regional football style to Mexico, the Black Stars gain invaluable insights into potential vulnerabilities and strengths before tackling England and Croatia in the group stage.

Scheduled for Friday, May 22, 2026, at a venue yet to be revealed in Mexico, both sides will field near-final squads.

This late-spring matchup allows for precise tactical tweaks, setting the stage for Ghana’s ambitious World Cup campaign.
