Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting large-scale local raw material production. This follows talks with Spanish Ambassador to Ghana, Angel Lossada Torres-Quevedo, and officials from GB Foods Africa, a leading agribusiness company.

The meeting, held in Accra today,February 16, 2026, focused on strengthening Ghana–Spain cooperation in agribusiness, particularly tomato cultivation and processing, to enhance food security and reduce imports.

GB Foods Africa, known for its Gino brand, has secured 6,000 acres of land in Afram Plains for tomato farming and is piloting tomato processing in Ghana.

The company aims to improve local tomato yields, currently estimated at 20 tonnes per acre, and has called for supportive policy measures to enable sustainable production.

Madam Ofosu-Adjare welcomed the investment, emphasising that Ghana’s industrialisation strategy prioritises local raw material production.

The meeting highlighted renewed momentum in Ghana–Spain economic cooperation, positioning agribusiness as key to industrial growth, job creation, and food security.
