President John Mahama celebrated one year in office today, Wednesday, January 7, 2026, with a non-denominational thanksgiving service at the Jubilee House, in Accra
He explained that the thanksgiving service was intentionally non-denominational, stressing that gratitude transcends religious doctrine.
According to him, regardless of religion or faith, it is widely acknowledged that no government succeeds solely through human effort.
“Today we gather not as members of different faiths or political traditions, but as one people united in gratitude, humility and reflection”. He noted that, it is not a day for the celebration of power, but a moment of thanks giving for the opportunity to serve. He sees it, not a day for the declaration of triumph but a reaffirmation of purpose and work to restore the country and put it on a good economic footing and improve the standard of living of its people.
President Mahama said, the government has taken difficult decisions and implemented challenging reforms, laying foundations that may not yet be visible. “Progress is not measured only by numbers, charts, and diagrams, but also by hope that is restored, by trust that is rebuilt and correct direction that is regained.”
He emphasized that the administration has prioritized economic stabilization, institutional reforms, and social protection, both within the country and in its engagements with the international community.
President Mahama urged citizens to recommit to ethical leadership, put service above self, uphold governance anchored in integrity, and strengthen the unity of the nation.
He further noted that the year ahead would demand more from the nation, but it also offers opportunities to accelerate growth.
