The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has conducted a court-authorised operation at five fuel depots and related Bulk Distribution Company (BDC) facilities, in a major step towards addressing suspected irregularities in Ghana’s petroleum import sector.
The searches are part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of under-declaration of petroleum imports, misclassification of fuel products during depot transfers, and possible tax evasion.
Preliminary findings suggest that some BDCs may have worked with officials from the National Petroleum Authority, the Ghana Revenue Authority, and the National Security Secretariat in activities linked to unlawful financial dealings. Investigators also suspect that intermediaries were involved in channelling funds through unauthorised routes.
The companies under investigation include Platon Oil and Gas Ltd, Sentuo Oil, Akwaaba Oil, Sahara Oil and Gas Ltd, and Chase Petroleum Ghana Ltd. Authorities are reported to have retrieved key documents and electronic data during the operation, while several individuals identified as persons of interest have been invited for questioning.
The OSP has indicated that investigations are ongoing and that more details will be provided as further evidence is reviewed.
