The CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Prof. Ransford Gyampo, says the Authority is not responsible for emergency shipping fees

The Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA) said some recent reports claiming shipping lines are charging “Emergency Conflict Surcharge” fees are misleading. “Shipping lines set their own charges, while the GSA regulates local fees but does not impose or collect such surcharges.”

Prof. Gyampo explained that the issue first came to his attention through a social media complaint submitted the previous night.

“As CEO, I have not slept throughout the night. I have reached out to the complainant, requested the necessary evidence, and as of this morning, launched an investigation to address the issue,” he said.

He stressed that the Authority has not been officially notified of any emergency fees and reiterated that the GSA is not responsible for imposing or collecting them.
