Government has announced a major transformation agenda for Ghana’s transport and logistics sector as part of efforts to strengthen supply chains and drive sustainable economic growth.
Key initiatives under the programme include the Big Push infrastructure agenda and ongoing expansion works at the country’s ports to support trade and regional integration.
The policy direction was outlined by the Director of Research, Statistics and Information Management at the Ministry of Transport, Merlyn Gaskin, who spoke on behalf of the Transport Minister at the investiture of the 9th Governing Council of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT).
Mr. Gaskin said the reforms are aimed at improving national connectivity, reducing logistics costs, and strengthening supply chains to support trade, industry, and Ghana’s integration into regional markets.
He explained that government is embarking on a sustained programme to modernise transport infrastructure and services, including road network rehabilitation and expansion under the Big Push agenda, railway redevelopment, expansion and rehabilitation of port facilities, airport modernisation, and the promotion of sustainable transportation systems.
According to him, efficient logistics within an integrated transport system remains critical to Ghana’s development objectives, particularly as the country pursues long-term economic growth.
Mr. Gaskin expressed confidence that CILT Ghana, under its new leadership, will continue to play a key role as a trusted partner in national development and a leading voice in logistics and transport across the sub-region.
