The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, on Monday, May 11, 2026, received envoys from the United Kingdom and China to discuss ways of strengthening trade and investment relations with Ghana.
Christian Rogg, paid a courtesy call on the Minister ahead of the upcoming Ghana-UK Investment Summit scheduled for June 1–2, 2026, in London.
The summit, themed “The Reset Agenda: Restoring Investor Confidence to Unlock Opportunities and Shared Prosperity,” is expected to focus on trade, investment, infrastructure and finance. President John Dramani Mahama is expected to attend the event alongside key government officials and private sector players.
Mr. Rogg reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to working closely with Ghanaian authorities to ensure a successful summit that will further strengthen bilateral economic ties between the two countries.
Speaking during the meeting, Hon. Ofosu-Adjare described the UK as one of Ghana’s largest trading partners and encouraged British companies to establish manufacturing operations in Ghana.
She also disclosed plans by the government to establish three garment factories this year to help create jobs and generate wealth for Ghanaians.
The summit is also expected to feature bilateral meetings, private sector engagements and the signing of potential growth partnership agreements.
Meanwhile, the Trade Minister also received Cong Song, the new Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, who used the occasion to formally introduce himself and discuss the implementation of the Chinese zero-tariff agreement with Ghana.
Ambassador Song further invited the Minister to participate in the November 2026 Shanghai Import and Export Exhibition in China.
For her part, Hon. Ofosu-Adjare reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to deepening trade relations with China.
“This Ministry is going to be your home. China is very important to us. I will be traveling to China this Thursday to attract at least 20 investors into Ghana. Chinese companies should also consider sourcing more products from Ghana to help reduce the trade deficit,” she stated.
The Minister further assured the Chinese envoy that government would ensure the effective implementation of the zero-tariff agreement to enhance trade between the two countries.
