A joint security operation has uncovered several suspected cybercrime centres in parts of Greater Accra, leading to the arrest of 53 Nigerian nationals and the rescue of 44 others believed to be victims of cybercrime exploitation.
The operation followed intelligence gathered over the past 48 hours by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) Ghana, which revealed that young men were being coerced by kingpins to engage in cybercrime activities in East Legon Hills, Afienya, Kwabenya, Weija, and Tuba.

Acting on the information, a joint team made up of National Security Operatives, CSA officials, the CID Headquarters, and the National Police SWAT carried out coordinated raids on January 16 and 17, 2026.
During the exercise, nine suspects were arrested, while 44 victims were rescued from various apartments where they were found using laptop computers for suspected cybercrime activities.
Searches conducted at the locations led to the retrieval of 52 mobile phones, 62 laptop computers, and two pump-action guns.

In total, arrests were made across the five locations as follows: East Legon Hills (5), Afienya (11), Kwabenya (10), Weija (10), and Tuba (17).
All those arrested have been handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for safekeeping and further investigations. Authorities have also warned foreign nationals to verify promises made by persons who lure them into Ghana under false pretences.

Some suspects from earlier operations have already been handed over to Nigerian authorities through INTERPOL at the Seme border, while others are facing prosecution in Ghana.
Security agencies say protecting Ghana’s cyber reputation remains a top priority and reaffirmed their commitment to cracking down on cybercrime across the country.
