Yendi goes agog as new Yaa-Naa, Abukari Mahama II, was outdoored as the Overlord of Dagbon.
The colourful ceremony took place at the Jubilee Park in Yendi amid display of rich traditional culture.
The coronation process started with a recital of the Holy Quran at the forecourt of the Gbewaa Palace before it was moved to the Jubilee Park.
Yaa-Naa Abubakari Mahama was selected by Dagbon Kingmakers on Friday, January 18, 2019, in Yendi after the burial of both Yaa-Naa Mahamadu Abdulai and Yaa Naa Yakubu Andani II.
This feat was achieved with the help of the Committee of Eminent Chiefs led by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The Committee was set up by former President John Agyekum Kufuor in 2002 to find a lasting solution to the protracted Dagbon chieftaincy dispute.
Meanwhile, some dignitaries at the ceremony were Former President John Mahama, Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta, Interior Minister Ambrose Dery, Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul, National Security Minister Albert Kan Dapaa, as well as the Minister for Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs, Kofi Dzamesi.
Also present were chiefs from across the country, representatives of political parties and Service Chiefs.
Some members of the Diplomatic Corp also were in attendance. The President of the National House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede is the chairman for the occasion.
