The Annual Plenary Assembly of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference was held in Damongo on November 10, 2025, and opened with a solemn call from the Chairman of the opening ceremony, Dr. Gameli Kewuribe Hoedoafia, Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCC).

Addressing Archbishops, Bishops, clergy, government officials, traditional leaders, consecrated men and women, and lay faithful, Dr. Hoedoafia described the occasion as “a profound honour and a deeply personal privilege to stand before this august assembly of shepherds of faith, men and women who daily lift the nation of Ghana before the throne of grace.

”He expressed gratitude to Bishop Peter Paul Angkyier and Archbishop Philip Naameh for the confidence reposed inhim and for their fatherly guidance over the years. Speaking on the theme “A Synodal Church at the Service of Justice and Peace in Ghana”, he said.

“A synodal Church walks with the people in unity and humility, responding with love and justice. This mission aligns closely with Ghana’s democratic goals, which seek participatory governance, inclusive development, and a society where every citizen has a voice”; he add

Dr. Hoedoafia cautioned that “our nation stands at a moral crossroads. We live in a time when truth is often compromised for convenience, when integrity is tested by greed, and when public trust is weakened by the actions of a few. In such times, the Church must be the voice that calls Ghana back to its covenant of righteousness.”

Quoting James, he reminded the gathering: “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) officially opened its 2025 Plenary Assembly on Monday at the Unity Centre in Damongo, Savannah Region, calling on the Church to serve justice and peace in Ghana.
