Former Member of Parliament, for Anyaa Sowutuom constituency, Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi has raised concerns about compensating victims of election violence, warning that it may encourage others to feign damages in hopes of receiving same compensation.
“We have to be careful about compensating people so as not to get people feigning damages during elections”, he said.
Speaking on GBC’s ‘Focus’ on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, Dr. Kissi clarified that he was not against compensations given to victims or their families but only wanted the government to tread cautiously about doing such.
His comments come after Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 gave an update report on the election violence that erupted in 2020 and 2024 that government would compensate families of victims who lost their lives or suffered injuries during the fore-mentioned elections.
The Minister disclosed that according to the special investigative taskforce, a total of 15 people were killed and 40 others injured in the violence across the country.
The Interior Minister, however, emphasized the government’s commitment to tackling electoral violence and ensuring that those found culpable face the full rigors of the law. He also called for increased voter education and early warning systems to prevent the escalation of disputes at polling stations.
