A total of 37,000 teacher trainees are sitting for this year’s Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination nationwide, with 5,000 retaking the exam and 32,000 writing it for the first time.

During a visit to the Accra High School examination centre, the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, encouraged candidates to strive for excellence and assured first-time participants that those who do not pass will have an opportunity to rewrite the exam.

He reiterated his directive to the National Teaching Council (NTC) to ensure that candidates from the previous cohort who were unsuccessful are allowed to retake the exam before the August 30 deadline.

This initiative, the Minister explained, forms part of broader government plans to integrate the licensure exam into the final assessment process for the next cohort of teacher trainees graduating from the Colleges of Education.

Later in the day, the Education Minister visited the Father Campbell Foundation in Weija, a key centre under the Ghana Education Outcomes Project (GEOP). There, he interacted with street-connected children currently enrolled in accelerated learning and skills training programmes.

He expressed profound appreciation to Father Campbell for his impactful work in restoring dignity and hope to the lives of vulnerable youth.

The Minister also assured the learners of the Ministry’s continued support through apprenticeship and vocational training opportunities.

The Ghana Education Outcomes Project (GEOP) continues to change lives by providing out-of-school youth with a second chance at education, empowerment, and self-reliance.
