Men encouraged to prioritise higher education amid rising female advancement

The Vice Chancellor of the Methodist University Ghana, Professor Philip Bondzi-Sampson, has urged men to enhance their focus on higher education, noting the increasing trend of females taking the lead in pursuing advanced studies.

Speaking at the 24th Matriculation Ceremony in Accra, Prof. Bondzi-Sampson emphasised the importance of dedication to studies among the incoming students.

In his address, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Philip Bondzi-Sampson, welcomed and congratulated the freshmen and women for their admission into the University.

He made known to the students that through their matriculation, ‘’they had become bona fide members of the University Community with the associated rights, privileges, and responsibilities’’.

He reminded the fresh students that by taking the Matriculation Oath, they had pledged their allegiance to the University to be of good behaviour, conform to the regulations and rules of the University, and respond to the authority of all in whom authority was vested.

He advised the students to personalise the core values of the University which are Knowledge, Truth and Excellence.

According to the statistics on admission for the 2023/2024 academic year, 793 candidates applied for admission into the undergraduate programmes. Out of this number, only 567 were offered admission.

Out of those admitted, 30% were males and 69% were females.

According to him, women are now taking the lead when it comes to pursuing higher education. Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Philip Bondzi-Sampson, advised men to step up their game in pursuing higher education.

Professor Bondzi-Sampson also used the occasion to encourage the new students to take their studies seriously.

A student, Jennifer Afful, on behalf of her colleagues, said they expect an education that does not only focus on academics but also equips them with practical skills that are relevant in the world.
