The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has officially launched the 2025 Ghana Teacher Prize, describing the annual event as a celebration of “dedication, sacrifice and continuous service” by Ghanaian teachers.

Speaking at the launch in Accra, the minister stressed that the quality of education is inseparable from the quality of teachers, adding that Ghana’s progress in human capital development depends on sustained investment in educators.

Mr Iddrisu pledged that government would continue to improve conditions of service and welfare for teachers, including enhanced training opportunities, infrastructure support, and housing initiatives. He highlighted plans for new modern school blocks, expanded access to pre-tertiary teacher education, and the recruitment of thousands of new teachers to meet classroom demands.

“You cannot value education without valuing teachers. The Ghana Teacher Prize is not just an event, it is a reminder that our nation’s future rests on the shoulders of dedicated men and women in our classrooms,” the minister said.

He further urged corporate Ghana and private stakeholders to support the initiative, emphasising that the collective recognition and motivation of teachers is critical for sustaining quality education.

Since its inception in 1995, the Ghana Teacher Prize has served as the country’s flagship platform to honour outstanding educators, many of whom have gone on to win recognition at continental and global teacher awards.

The 2025 edition, scheduled for October, will once again spotlight teachers whose work continues to shape Ghana’s education system, which currently supports more than 9.5 million learners across basic and secondary schools.
