Today is World Teachers’ Day. It is an annual event celebrated worldwide to recognise and appreciate the contributions of teachers in society.

Observed on October 5 each year, the day was instituted to acknowledge the essential role teachers play in nurturing the intellectual, moral and social development of students, in building a better and more equitable world.

It also serves as an opportunity to express gratitude to teachers who help shape the future.

The day will focus on the theme “The teachers we need for the education we want: The global imperative to reverse the teacher shortage”.

World Teachers’ Day also known as International Teachers Day, was established by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation in 1994.
