Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has called for sweeping reforms across Ghana’s public service institutions, especially in the educational sector, emphasizing the need for accountability, equal performance, and a renewed commitment to national development.
Addressing the House, the Member of Parliament stressed the urgent need to fix inequalities in the country’s education system, particularly the disparities between Grade A and Grade B senior high schools.
According to the MP, the recent placement of students into high schools exposed a systemic imbalance that undermines the goal of equal opportunity in education.
“There must be no Grade A or Grade B schools,” the MP stated. “We spend equally on all teachers in all schools, and this House must do whatever it takes to fix all schools and demand equal performance.”
The lawmaker called on Parliament to begin demanding accountability and higher standards of performance from all public service institutions, including the Ghana Education Service, Ghana Health Service, and the Judicial Service.
“We pay equally to all schools. This House must begin to demand accountability and the highest standards of performance from all our services—education, health, judicial, and others,” the MP added.
The call formed part of a broader appeal for a national reset, urging a shift in attitudes within the public service to align with the country’s development goals.
The MP also highlighted Ghana’s growing positive image on international platforms, crediting the “reset agenda” of President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“The story of Ghana is now being told in a positive light internationally. The reset agenda of President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC is on course, and this House will sustain that agenda in this meeting,” the Majority Leader said.
The call reinforces Parliament’s role in ensuring equity, transparency, and excellence in all sectors of national development.
