An 18-unit classroom block being constructed by the 2000-year group of the Old Achimotan Association, is nearing completion.

The project, estimated at 7.5 million Cedis, is the centerpiece of the group’s 25th Anniversary Legacy Project expected to be handed over to Achimota School by the end of November this year.

The two-storey structure, the Legacy Project, aims to provide infrastructure to support the school’s growing student population.

The building will house six classrooms on each floor, totalling 18 units upon completion.

Some members of the OAA 2000 group who are architects and building engineers have volunteered their expertise, ensuring top-quality construction materials are used while reducing labour costs by an estimated 1 million Cedis.

During a recent site visit and fundraising event dubbed AKORA 2G Family Connect, President of the OAA 2000 group, Mr. Kamal Deen Mardi, appealed for additional financial support and resources to ensure the timely completion of the project.

He stressed that more funding is needed to complete remaining works including tiling, electrical installations, scaling, and glazing, particularly on the ground floor which is about 70 percent complete.

“We scheduled to hand over this project to the school before the speech and prize giving day. So, we planned to handover the project towards the end of November 2025. We need a lot of funding, we need a lot of resources to make this happen but we’re hopeful, and we are looking up to other people to hop on and then help resource us. Be it in materials or in money, so we can make this come alive. But we are hopeful that we will hand over the project at the time we have given it to the school.” He added

Speaking at the event, Dr. Kwabena Akufo Akoto encouraged other year groups to collaborate on such projects to avoid delays associated with single-group efforts.

He noted that some projects had stalled due to inadequate support and resources, urging collective action for greater impact.

As part of the 25th anniversary celebration, the group used the occasion to reconnect and raise funds to complete the Legacy Project
