It is World Teachers’ Day and the conversations are geared towards the development of Teachers in Ghana and how well they are faring. Teachers have contributed immensely and continue to contribute to the development of Ghana’s human resource capital.
In a discussion on what has contributed to the braid drain of teachers in Ghana, Corporate Governance Expert and Law Lecturer, Dr. Kwaku Anane-Gyinde mentioned that, poor working and economic conditions over the years have contributed to the rise in the number of teachers leaving the country
It was reported that 10,000 certified Teachers have been granted employment in the United Kingdom, an index that raises alarm in the education sector of Ghana.
Reacting to the news, Dr. Gyinde bemoaned that, if this should continue in the next few years, there would not be enough requisite human resource to develop the Ghana we all dream of.
He said this on the October 5, 2023 edition of GTV’s Breakfast Show.
He noted that, there is nothing wrong with people traveling outside the shores of the country in search of greener pastures but it becomes alarming when the number is too high.
He indicated that if working conditions and economic situations are unbearable, it leaves people with no option than to leave.
He further called on the government to try every possible means in taking care Teachers and other professional human resources in order to reduce the level of brain drain.
He advised Ghanaians and other professionals to remain resilient and inculcate the spirit of patriotism.
