The Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has disclosed that teachers have been reassigned to various places to offer support to those affected by the spillage and accommodate all students.
He highlighted that the Ministry of Education is determined, with the support of the World Bank and development partners, to bring stability to the impacted schools in a short period.
Speaking at the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Floods press briefing, Dr. Adutwum emphasized the goal of ensuring no students are left behind in areas affected by the spillage.
“Some schools initially served as safe havens for the affected communities, keeping them rightfully in place,” he shared.
“Nana Addo in his administration has made Education his centre piece of his transformative agenda so therefore he charged us and agency to visit the various places affected.”
He stressed that creating safe havens in schools during disasters is a global practice, and within a short time, suitable arrangements have been made for students to continue their education, with many already returning to school.
The Akosombo Dam spillage has specifically impacted 42,626 learners and 1,561 teachers across 121 schools in the Volta Region, including Ketu, North Tongu, and Ketu South.
