The University for Development Studies (UDS) has reassured the university community and stakeholders that robust security protocols are in place across all its campuses to ensure the safety and well-being of all, and to create a conducive environment for academic work.
A statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs of UDS, Abdul Hayi Moomen, expressed concern over “misleading headlines” following the conviction of a 20-year-old student of the university.
Salifu Nko-nya, 20, was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Tamale High Court following his conviction for the murder of a fellow student in a tragic love-related dispute.
The statement said, “While the university acknowledges the gravity of the crime and fully supports the pursuit of justice, it is deeply concerned about the manner in which some of these stories have been presented.”
It denied claims that the incident took place on any of the university’s campuses, adding that the university was on break when the act was committed.
The statement further cautioned the media to be circumspect in their reporting and urged them to partner with the university to shape narratives that are “accurate, fair, and constructive.”
