The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor has issued a stern warning to staff of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) against acts of corruption, unauthorized meter sales, and revenue diversion, stressing that anyone found culpable will be held fully accountable.

The Minister made the remarks during an official working visit to the Electricity Company of Ghana, which he described as “the heartbeat of Ghana’s energy value chain.” The visit formed part of his ongoing supervisory engagements with agencies under the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition.
The discussions focused on assessing ECG’s operational challenges, interacting with staff, and reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting the company’s ongoing reforms aimed at ensuring efficiency, transparency, and accountability in the energy sector.

The Minister commended the management of ECG, led by Ing. Julius Kpekpena, for significant progress made in procurement, maintenance, revenue mobilization, and strategic direction. One of the company’s major milestones, he noted, was the successful review of 347 legacy contracts, out of which 202 have been terminated, saving the nation approximately US$300 million.
He underscored that such decisive actions reflect government’s commitment to restoring discipline and financial prudence within state institutions.
“Any staff involved in malfeasance—be it through unauthorized sale of meters or diversion of revenue—will be held fully accountable. There will be no shielding, no special treatment, and no exceptions”; he affirmed.
He further emphasized that the government is not only addressing inherited challenges but also implementing bold structural corrections to guarantee the long-term stability of the energy sector.
The Minister reaffirmed his full support to the ECG’s leadership and encouraged staff to uphold integrity, professionalism, and dedication in delivering reliable power services to Ghanaians.
