Finance Ministry vow to hold public purse looters accountable

The Ministry of Finance has promised to hold individuals who have stolen from the public purse accountable after the release of the Auditor-General’s report on arrears and payables as at the end of 2024.

The Auditor General’s report was delivered on March 10 2026 highlighting financial mismanagement and unpaid arrears across government agencies at the end of 2024

On the floor of parliament Deputy Finance Minister, Thomas Nyarko Ampem stated that every individual that is found culpable of looting the public purse will be held accountable

“Speaker, the Minister for Finance has formally referred the report of the Auditor-General to the Attorney-General to bring to account those responsible for this rape of the public purse. Those who abused their offices, colluded with contractors, falsified records, or attempted to loot the public purse through the back door will be held to account,” he said

The Deputy Minister also indicated that the Mahama administration was going to be stern on government expenditure as a display of financial discipline

“Speaker, the Ministry of Finance, will no longer serve as a rubber stamp for weak controls and falsified claims, The Mahama administration refuses to accept this rotten system. We refuse to normalise waste, and we refuse to ask the Ghanaian people to pay for fraud.
