British boxer and former world champion Ricky Hatton has died at age of 46. His body was discovered at his home in Manchester on Sunday, September 14, 2025, according to reports from the BBC. The news of his sudden death has shocked the boxing community and fans worldwide.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed the discovery, stating that officers were called to Bowlacre Road, Hyde, Tameside, at 6:45 a.m. following a report from a member of the public.
A police spokesperson said, “There are not currently believed to be any suspicious circumstances” surrounding Hatton’s death, suggesting it was unexpected but no foul play was involved.
Ricky Hatton was one of the most celebrated British boxers of his era, boasting a professional career spanning 15 years. Known for his aggressive style and relentless pressure, Hatton won 45 of his 48 fights.

He claimed world titles by defeating notable fighters such as Kostya Tszyu of Russia and Jose Luis Castillo, establishing himself as a dominant force in the light-welterweight division.
Hatton’s career also included high-profile losses to two of boxing’s greats, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.
Despite those challenges, his legacy as a fierce competitor remained intact. After retiring from the professional ring in 2012, Hatton embarked on various ventures, but in July 2025, he announced a comeback to the sport, with a scheduled middleweight fight against Eisa Al Dah set for December 2 in Dubai.
The boxing world mourns a champion who was beloved both inside and outside the ring. Ricky Hatton’s unexpected death comes just months after his announced return to the sport, cutting short a career that still held promise for new chapters.
