The 69 Airborne Force of the Ghana Armed Forces has extended a medical outreach to residents of the Kogni community in the Sagnarigu Municipality of the Northern Region.

The Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) activity underscores the unit’s commitment to social responsibility, fostering stronger bonds and building trust with the civilian population.

At the end of the four-hour exercise, a total of 247 residents across all age groups benefited from the outreach programme.

Medical services provided included health promotion and education, general consultations, and eye screening supported by Savana Opticals and Eye Clinic. Additional services included ear, nose and throat (ENT) care, specialised diabetes and hypertension clinics, family planning counselling, as well as testing and treatment for minor ailments.

The Station Medical Officer (SMO) of the Airborne Force Medical Centre, Flt Lt Crispin Mwinlanaa Yobonzie, commended the various partners for supporting the exercise in an interview with GBC News.

He noted that over the years, the Medical Centre has provided essential healthcare not only to military personnel and their families but also to residents of surrounding communities. He added that the Kogni community was therefore selected for this year’s outreach.

“We hope this will lay a foundation for better healthcare in the coming years. The Ghana Armed Forces does not only see defence in terms of security, but also in caring for the people they protect. Health is important for everyone,” he said.

He advised the public to prioritise regular medical check-ups, maintain a healthy lifestyle, and incorporate exercise into their daily routines.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Sagnarigu, Abdulai Moro Gong, commended the Airborne Force Medical Centre for the initiative.

“The quality of drugs provided is comparable to any hospital in Ghana. They are dispensing expensive medication free of charge, and we appreciate their commitment to the community,” he said.

He added that the assembly intends to partner with the organisers in future exercises.

“We urge them to continue, and next year, the municipal assembly will collaborate with them,” he said.

The outreach was supported by Mari Care Clinic, Savana Opticals and Eye Clinic, Obarsi Pharmacy, GinaPharma, Ilee Pharmacy, PK Gombila Pharmacy, Ernest Chemist, and Tobinco and Mauplus Pharmacies.

The Commander Rear of the 69 Airborne Force, Lt Col A.J. Kwarteng, was also in attendance.
