The Acting Chief Executive of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Prof Ransford Gyampo has called on all transit shippers to register with the Authority. This he said will help sanitize the system and facilitate smoother trade flows and enhance coordination in transit trade.

He made mention of this during the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Ghana Shippers Authority and Niger shippers council to promote efficient transit trade.

The Ghana shippers Authority and Niger Shippers Council have over the years built a relationship anchored on a shared vision to promote efficient and competitive and mutually beneficial shipping services between Niger and Ghana.

The signing ceremony between the two countries signifies a collaboration geared towards addressing challenges affecting transit trade such as the non transparent handling of transit cargoes, axle load problems and security issues, adding to the cost of doing business and reducing competitiveness over the years.

The Acting Chief Executive of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Professor Ransford Gyampo said the passage of the Ghana Shippers Authority law, ACT 1122, will help strengthen the authority’s mandate to deal more decisively with the challenges affecting the proper functioning of transit trade regimes in Ghana.

The Director General of the Niger Shippers Council said non tariff barriers have continuously impeded transit trade by  affecting the haulage of transit cargo.

The signing of the MOU he said will address such challenges to trade between the two countries.
