Ghana is on the verge of finalizing a landmark agreement with China, marking a significant milestone in their bilateral cooperation. The two countries are in advanced stages of concluding an “end-harvest agreement,” a strategic pact aimed at dividing global sectors of mutual benefit and boosting economic cooperation.

Ghana’s Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare revealed that, the agreement is expected to enhance Ghana’s access to China’s massive market, with zero-tariff treatment for Ghanaian products, including cocoa, shea butter, and cashew. This move is anticipated to increase Ghana’s exports to China, reduce the trade deficit, and create jobs in various sectors, such as agriculture, manufacturing, and textiles.

“Our two countries will be able to refine oil, textiles and garment, agriculture into one of the world’s largest economic economies. In return, strategic Chinese input is essential for our relationship with the industrialisation agenda”, she noted.

Speaking during the sod-cutting of the new float glass manufacturing facility today in Accra, Madam Ofosu-Adjare stated that, the signing of the agreement is expected to take place in the coming weeks, marking a significant milestone in Ghana-China commercial relations.
