The Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF) has announced the postponement of its scheduled Elective Congress, which was set for Friday, April 25, 2025.

The decision was officially communicated through a statement signed by the Federation’s Secretary-General, Benjamin Addy, on Thursday, April 24.

The postponement highlights the Federation’s commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process.

The primary reason for the delay centers around growing concerns about the integrity of the delegates list. Several stakeholders questioned the transparency of the electoral process, prompting the Federation to reconsider the timing of the election.

These issues raised doubts about the legitimacy of the upcoming votes and underscored the need for a thorough review.

In response, the GWF Elections Committee has taken proactive steps to address the concerns. They are working closely with the National Sports Authority (NSA) to verify and finalize the list of eligible delegates. This collaboration aims to restore confidence in the electoral process and ensure that only qualified members participate in the upcoming elections.

Adding to the efforts for transparency, the President of the Weightlifting Federation of Africa (WFA), Mr. Khaled Mehalhel, has expressed interest in sending an observer to oversee the elections. The GWF has welcomed this initiative, viewing it as a crucial move towards maintaining credibility and fairness throughout the process.

The Federation has assured its members that a new date for the Elective Congress will be announced once all issues are thoroughly addressed and proper coordination is complete.

This postponement reflects the GWF’s dedication to conducting a transparent election that upholds the integrity of Ghanaian weightlifting.
