Member of Parliament, MP for Ofoase Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has expressed skepticism about the ruling government’s 24-hour economy policy, calling it a “deceit” and questioning its ability to create lasting jobs for Ghana’s youth.
“Ghanaians would soon realize the 24-hour economy is a deceit and I can tell with confidence that there is not much that is going to happen with this 24-hour economy by the time their four years are done”, he said.
Speaking in an interview on the GTV breakfast on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, the MP highlighted a fundamental flaw in the program’s construct, pointing out that the government has failed to provide a clear definition and implementation strategy for the policy.
“There is a fundamental flaw in the construct of the 24-hour economy program”, he noted.
The ruling government promised to create 1.7 million jobs through the 24-hour economy initiative, but Mr. Oppong Nkrumah questioned where these jobs would come from, emphasizing that young people need long-lasting employment opportunities. He also criticized the government’s lack of transparency and clarity on the policy, stating that multiple definitions and conflicting statements from officials have created uncertainty.
He also urged the government to focus on governance rather than propaganda, emphasizing that clear communication and a well-defined plan are essential for the policy’s success.
The 24-hour economy policy initiated by the ruling government aims to re-engineer Ghana’s productivity framework by extending economic activity beyond traditional working hours and integrating key sectors into a seamless value chain.
