Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has reassured the nation that the Black Queens national women’s football team is safe and in good spirits while competing in the UAE.
In a statement amid regional turbulence, Ablakwa confirmed direct communication with the team’s leadership and ongoing consular support from Ghana’s diplomatic mission in the UAE.
“The safety and welfare of all Ghanaians, particularly those in the Middle East, remains our utmost priority,” he emphasized.
The Black Queens are in the UAE for the prestigious Pink Ladies Cup 2026, an annual invitational tournament that doubles as intense preparation for major international competitions.
Hosted at venues like Al Hamriya Sports Club Stadium, the event brings together top women’s national teams for high-stakes matches.
The squad kicked off their campaign in style on Saturday, February 28, 2026, demolishing Hong Kong 4-0 in their opening group fixture.
Ghana’s attackers dominated from the whistle, showcasing sharp finishing and solid defense that left opponents chasing shadows throughout the match.
With momentum on their side, the Black Queens now eye their remaining group games: a clash against Russia on March 3 at 16:00 GMT, followed by Tanzania on March 6 at 21:00 GMT.
Strong results here could propel them deep into the knockout stages.
Football fans back home can breathe easy knowing the team is protected and performing at their best, blending national pride with diplomatic vigilance in these testing times.
