Grooming and Etiquette Consultant, Gladys Desbordes Hill has urged travelers to uphold proper conduct from the moment they start planning their journeys. Speaking on GTV’s Breakfast Show on October 22, 2025. She emphasized that “good travel etiquette begins even before you book your ticket.”

According to her, travelers often overlook the importance of preparation, punctuality, and consideration for others. “Once you’ve bought your ticket, the etiquette journey has started. If it’s a domestic flight, arrive at least one hour before departure; for international flights, be there two hours ahead,” she advised.

She also cautioned against the overuse of Ghana Must Go’ bags on international flights, explaining that while they are affordable, many airlines reject them for safety and aesthetic reasons. “If you can afford a flight ticket, you can afford a luggage tag or a box. ‘Ghana Must Go’ bags can tear easily and airlines won’t pay if items get lost,” she said.

On behavior inside planes, Madam Desbordes reminded passengers to be mindful of others’ comfort. “Avoid strong-smelling foods and unnecessary conversations. A simple ‘hello’ to your seatmate is enough not your life story,” she said .

She also encouraged frequent travelers to assist, rather than intimidate, first-time flyers. “If someone looks nervous, help them. Don’t bully them. That’s what entitled travelers should learn — humility in the skies.”
