The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, has announced that the government will construct 2,000 housing units nationwide to address accommodation challenges within the Armed Forces.
Speaking at the GAF end-of-year non-denominational religious parade at Burma Camp on Sunday, 14th December 2025, held under the theme “Kept by the Power of God,” Lt. Gen. Agyapong said that about 700 of the units will be built in Accra across five garrisons to help ease the current housing deficit.
“Next year, we will see a massive improvement in our accommodation situation. Over the next five years, if all goes as planned, we are expecting an additional 8,000 housing units. This arrangement is to ensure that our gallant personnel have decent places of abode,” he said.
The CDS also revealed plans to retool the security service, including the procurement of long-haul jets, helicopters, offshore patrol boats, armoured vehicles, and additional military equipment such as weapons, vehicles, protective gear, and ammunition.
Addressing misinformation in the public domain, Lt. Gen. Agyapong clarified reports suggesting the Ghanaian government underpays UN Peacekeepers. “Some viral videos allege that the government receives a lot for peacekeeping but gives little. These claims are far from facts. We must use our knowledge and discernment and not fall for such misinformation,” he said.
The housing and retooling initiatives are part of broader efforts to improve living conditions for personnel and strengthen the operational capacity of the Ghana Armed Forces.
