The Ghana Trade Fair Company Limited, GTFCL, says owners of buildings demolished at its premises were given ample notice.

The company in a statement, insisted that it took all necessary steps to inform the businesses of a redevelopment project it intends to undertake. It says no business or businesses have ever been targeted due to political or other affiliations.

The Company said on July 10, 2018, it informed all the tenants about the redevelopment project and gave them the mandatory six month notice to vacate the site by 31st December of the same year.

It adds that since December 31, 2018, none of the businesses on-site have any valid tenancy agreement with the Ghana Trade Fair Company Limited. In addition, the company referenced a court ruling on February 12, 2020, which threw out an injunction order paving the way for the Government to go ahead with the face-lift of the Ghana Trade Fair site.

Following the dismissal of the injunction order, the demolition of some structures took place on the night of Sunday, February 16. Some owners of buildings demolished at the Trade Fair have accused the authorities of carrying out the exercise without giving them ample notice.

Meanwhile Radio Ghana’s visit to the site revealed that though the Ghana Trade Fair Company Limited, GTFCL, has given notices to tenants to vacate the earmarked site for redevelopment  the Company still collects rent from the occupants.

A tenant who wants to remain anonymous  said just last week ,the Company brought them bills. She was seen packing her items from her structure with the fear that the structure could be demolished again anytime soon.
