The implementation of the Hazardous and Electronic Waste Control and Management Act, (Act 917) is facing a lot of challenges.

This is because the levy imposed on electrical equipment by manufacturers that Ghana is supposed to retrieve to construct the e-waste recycling facility at Agbogbloshie, is not forthcoming.

The Acting Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), John Pwamang, attributed this to the lack of a framework that will compel Original Equipment Manufacturers, OEMs to pay such levies.

Mr. Pwamang said this at the launch of a phase two of a Swiss-funded waste management project, Sustainable Recycling Industries in Accra.
