Deputy Minister of Health, Prof. Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, has, on behalf of the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, opened the 6th Annual Nursing and Midwifery Leaders and Managers Conference (NMLMC 2025) in Tamale.
The conference brought together key stakeholders, including Chief Executives of teaching hospitals, Regional Directors of Health Services, as well as nursing and midwifery directors and managers, to deliberate on strengthening healthcare delivery, leadership, and professional education.

At the core of the discussions was the need to empower nursing and midwifery managers to drive excellence in service delivery. Participants explored strategies to enhance healthcare quality, promote accountability in leadership, and advance the implementation of Ghana’s Nursing and Midwifery Strategic Plan (2024–2028). The plan, which is in line with the WHO Global Strategic Directions, seeks to develop a highly skilled workforce capable of delivering safe and quality care across the country.
Other key highlights of the event included examining incentive packages to attract and retain health professionals in underserved communities and exploring opportunities for dedicated research funding to support innovations in nursing and midwifery practice.

The conference also provided a platform for networking and knowledge sharing among professionals, policymakers, and healthcare experts, fostering collaboration to shape the future of nursing and midwifery in Ghana.
